Definitions
Severe Sepsis
Presence of sepsis with one or more of the following:
Acute end organ dysfunction, (thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, altered mental status, respiratory failure, oliguria, acute kidney injury)
hypotension
hypoperfusion
Lactate ≥ 4mmol/L
Sepsis Shock
Presence of sepsis with hemodynamic instability that persists despite aggressive fluid challenge
SBP less than 90mmHg or 40mmHg decrease from baseline or MAP less than 65mmHg after 30ml/kg fluid bolus over 30 min
Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome
Dysfunction of more than one organ - Homeostasis must be maintained with immediate intervention.
