Signs and Symptoms of Sepsis in Children

Vital Signs

• Hypoxia ( low oxygen saturation)
• Fever ( Temperature 38°C) or hypothermia ( T < 36°C)
• Tachycardia, tachypnea, hypotension for age

Respiratory

• Respiratory distress

Cardiovascular

• Tachycardia, hypotension, cyanosis, arrhythmia
• Poor capillary refill

Neurologic

• Altered mental status ( lethargic, irritable, inconsolable)

Other

• Genitourinary: Oliguria ( low urine output)
• Dermatologic: Petechiae, purpura, mottled skin, pallor
